Injured pitchers don’t normally move at the Trade Deadline, but Paul Sewald's experience as a closer with Seattle and Arizona and his projected return in September made him an upside add for the Tigers.

The Detroit Tigers acquired right-handed reliever Paul Sewald from the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Sewald, 35, currently is on the 15-day injured list with a strain in his pitching shoulder.

The Detroit Tigers acquired Kyle Finnegan from Washington for two prospects, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press just hours before Thursday's trade deadline.
