GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AFP) — Gaza rescuers said at least 80 people were killed in Israeli bombardment across the Palestinian territory on Wednesday, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff about the release of hostages.
At least 50 people, including 22 children, were killed in strikes around Jabaliya in northern Gaza alone, according to hospitals and Gaza’s Health Ministry.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March. According to the agreement, Israel would withdraw its forces from Gaza and Hamas would release the remaining hostages. But Israel refused to evacuate from a strategic corridor, and added a demand for Hamas to disarm; Hamas refused to free all the hostages, or to give up its weapons.
