A storm front brought strong winds and possible tornadoes, leaving numerous structures damaged near Bennett and Elizabeth.
"Severe thunderstorms capable of all severe hazards remain possible this evening across portions of the central and southern Plains," a forecast from the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said. "Several strong to intense tornadoes are possible," it added.
Experts say planning before a tornado threatens is key for staying safe. Weather radios, basements and bicycle helmets can all help save lives.
Southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas are at the greatest risk for severe weather in the region.
"That would include large hail, potentially to the size of tennis balls, damaging straight line winds, which seems, at this point, to be one of the primary threats with winds — straight line winds — potentially between 70 or 80 miles an hour," he said. "And also, tornadoes will be a possibility."
