The Indiana Hoosiers' loss in the Big Ten Tournament puts them in a precarious position with Selection Sunday just around the corner.

Indiana will watch how Xavier, Villanova, North Carolina, SMU, VCU, Liberty, San Diego State and Dayton fare in the coming days.

Competitive or not, losses are still losses. After falling in their first matchup of the Big Ten Tournament, the Hoosiers finished just short of the 20-win mark. Indiana hasn’t earned an NCAA Tournament berth with fewer than 20 wins since the 2014-15 season.

The Hoosiers stumbled their way to an early exit up the road from their campus, and took their NCAA Tournament hopes out of their own hands.

The No. 9 Hoosiers (19-12) lost 72-59 to an Oregon team that beat them on their West Coast trip nine days earlier. Those losses were huge setbacks for an IU team firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble, while the No. 8 Ducks (23-8) head into the quarterfinals to face No. 1 Michigan State, having won eight straight games.

Indiana came into the day ranked No. 52 in the NET Rankings with a 4-12 record against Quad 1 opponents (three of those wins came on the road) and no losses against Quad 2-4 teams. They finished .500 in conference play after closing out the regular season with five wins in their last seven games.
