The Smithsonian Institution will restore information about President Donald Trump’s two impeachments from an exhibit after removing it in July for a “content review” following pressure from the White House to remove National Portrait Gallery director Kim Sajet.

It is understandable that Trump has fond memories of growing up rich in a world of white male privilege before most Americans alive today were born. But nostalgia should not drive public policy.

President Trump’s impeachments were mentioned in an exhibit on the American presidency that museum officials said was outdated. A Smithsonian spokeswoman said a future exhibit would include “all impeachments.

The nation’s museum whitewashed the language to describe the president’s impeachments after being accused of promoting “narratives that portray American and Western values as inherently harmful and oppressive.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Trump had been added to the display in 2021 after he was impeached for a second time by a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. Trump called the first impeachment an attempted “coup” and the second “yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country”.
