KAHIKINUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Firefighters on Maui are responding to an active brush fire in the Kahikinui Homestead area around Mile Marker 24 on Piʻilani Hwy on the southern slope of Haleakalā.

The Kahikinui was initially estimated at 500 acres (202 hectares), but aerial surveys overnight put the estimate at about 330 acres (134 hectares), Maui's fire department said.

The Kahikinui brush fire is now 93% contained and has burned 330 acres. Evacuation orders were lifted Monday night.
