A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck Turkey’s northwestern province of Balikesir, killing at least one person and causing about a dozen buildings to collapse.

The magnitude 6.1 quake left one person dead and caused 16 buildings to collapse in the north-west Balikesir province.

An earthquake with a 6.1 magnitude hit Turkey's western province of Balikesir on Sunday, killing one person. The epicenter of the tremor was the town of Sindirgi. It sent shocks that were felt all the way to Istanbul, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) away.
