Uber, Lucid partner on new robotaxi service, taking on Waymo and Tesla
Uber (UBER) is betting big on robotaxis, with pure-play electric vehicle maker Lucid (LCID) as its partner. The two companies, along with autonomous tech firm Nuro (NURO.PVT), announced on Thursday morning a “next-generation premium global robotaxi program” exclusively for the Uber platform.
Uber to deploy 20,000 autonomous taxis in partnership with Lucid and Nuro
Lucid Group Inc., a Nasdaq-traded automaker, will build the vehicles. Venture-backed startup Nuro Inc. is set to provide autonomous driving software for those vehicles. As part of the collaboration, Uber is reportedly investing $300 million in Lucid and an unspecified larger sum in Nuro.
Popular ridesharing service Uber is launching features geared to seniors. Other companies like Lyft also have these options.
