Before you hit the road, remove all snow and ice from your windows, roof and lights. The normal following distance when driving is 3-4 seconds. Officials advise you to increase that to 5-6 seconds. This gives you more time to brake in case you hit a slick spot.

Roadways are snow and ice-covered across the county, according to the Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency. The White Pine Fire Department said a majority of roadways throughout the community are snow and ice-covered.
