A combination of Canadian wildfire smoke and Saharan dust is expected to impact Georgia this week. Here's what to expect.
Wildfire smoke from Canada is expected to push into Georgia this weekend. The same northwest flow that is pushing the rain out and bringing us drier air will also transport some of this smoke all the way from Canada into Georgia.
A series of wildfires burning across central Canada sent smoke billowing into the U.S. over the weekend, with few signs that the blazes will subside anytime soon.
While excessive heat primarily affected Canada, the resulting smoke and poor air quality highlight how climate-driven events don’t stop at borders,” one expert said.
The smoke has been brought south by jet stream winds and continues to filter through the skies across the southeast. This has brought 'moderate' air quality to north Georgia over the last several days. Much of the smoke is higher in the atmosphere, limiting the air quality from reaching Code Orange or Red.
