The small plane that crashed into a neighborhood in San Diego, California, Thursday, killing at least two people, appears to have begun its doomed journey in New Jersey, officials and flight tracking data say.

Emergency personnel immediately responded to the scene, extinguishing multiple fires and assisting residents with evacuations, police said. At least a half-dozen people were on board the private jet at the time of the incident.
