HarmonyOS made its debut at Huawei’s developer conference in Dongguan, China, where Richard Yu, CEO of the company’s Consumer Business Group, talked up its wide-ranging potential.

HarmonyOS also allows for very fast "Inter Process Communication" -- the link between its microkernel and external kernel services like file systems, networks, drivers, apps and more.

HarmonyOS is not meant to replace Android or iOS, Huawei said. Rather, its application is more far-reaching, powering not just phones and tablets but an increasing number of smart devices.

Furthermore, HarmonyOS 4 brings several security optimizations. Including improved permission tracking options, app install warnings, and stricter access restrictions to personal information.

Huawei has announced a trio of new MatePad tablets; a new 12.6-inch MatePad Pro, a smaller 10.8-inch MatePad Pro, and a new MatePad 11. All of them run the company’s HarmonyOS operating system.
