National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent Jeffrey Reinbold announced the Washington Monument tour suspensions Monday. Tours will be suspended immediately, through Jan. 24.

The mall achieved a sense of magnificence nevertheless, honoring the men and ideas that shaped the country. The Washington Monument was dedicated in 1885, the Lincoln Memorial in 1922.
