It’s unclear who shot a video of a construction excavator knocking down a large portion of the westbound Washington Bridge last Friday, sending debris slamming down onto two barges and into the Seekonk River.

St. Martin said that the demolition posed no danger to the still-in-use span of the Washington Bridge, which is carrying traffic in both directions on Interstate 195 and was 150 feet away. He added that the barges were not damaged and will be reused.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Department of Labor is investigating the demolition of the Washington Bridge. According to the DOL’s office of public affairs, OSHA is inspecting J.R. Vinagro corporation and their work on the bridge demolition. As it’s an open investigation and there are few details available.
