President Donald Trump threatened to put a "restriction" on the Washington Commanders' plans to build a new stadium in D.C. over refusal to revert back to their old name.
Trump announced on Sunday that “the Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team” and claimed that “there is a big clamoring for this.” A short time later, he threatened to prevent the team from building a new stadium in D.C. if the name wasn’t changed back to the offensive one.
President Donald Trump’s social media posts about the NFL’s Washington Commanders and Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Guardians going back to their old names has revived the conversation about Native American imagery in sports.
Scott Turner, the HUD secretary and former Washington Redskins defensive back, backed President Donald Trump's push to change the Commanders' nickname.
