President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a stadium deal for Washington's football team if it doesn't restore its old name.

President Donald Trump is threatening the Commanders' NFL stadium deal if the team does not change its name back to the "Redskins," according to a recent post.

President Trump said he may move to block the Washington Commanders' new stadium as he called on the NFL team and also MLB's Cleveland Guardians to restore their old names. The big picture: The Commanders changed their name from the Washington Redskins and the Guardians from the Cleveland Indians in the wake of an anti-racism movement that swept the U.

In July 2021, the club announced its new nickname, the Guardians, which was inspired by a pair of stone sculptures, known as the Guardians of Traffic, along the Hope Memorial Bridge near the ballpark. The team also debuted a “Diamond C” logo on players’ caps to go with the new name.

Trump also said he wants the Cleveland Guardians to revert back to the Indians. Neither team has plans to change its name again.
