Hurricane Erin is now a Category 4 storm, rapidly intensifying overnight into early Saturday morning as it moves closer to the U.S. East Coast with sustained winds up to 155 mph.

Hurricane Erin continues to churn in the Atlantic, gaining strength as it looks to swing north and away from the U.S. coastline. It's now a Category 4 storm. This is the first hurricane of the 2025 season in the Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Erin is expected to begin strengthening today, Aug. 13 and become a hurricane Friday, Aug. 15, and a strong Category 3 hurricane by Sunday, Aug. 17 as it moves out of an area with dry area and "marginal" sea surface temperatures.
