Fighting along the Thai-Cambodian border came to a halt Tuesday after military commanders from both countries met to enforce a ceasefire agreement reached a day earlier — a deal the Thai army accused Cambodia of violating.

President Donald Trump is championing himself as an expert in conflict resolution after helping successfully negotiate peace between Thailand and Cambodia. The president boasted about his accomplishment Monday while speaking to reporters in Scotland alongside U.

Thailand and Cambodia disputed whether an hours-old border truce was holding after the Thai army accused Cambodian forces of launching attacks. It added that Thailand's military had retaliated proportionately.

The deadly conflict on the Thai-Cambodian border pits a longtime United States ally with decades of experience against a relatively young armed force with close ties to China.
