STUTTGART, Germany - German top seed Alexander Zverev beat Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-2 7-6(7) on Thursday to reach the Stuttgart Open quarter-finals, staying on course in his Wimbledon tune-up after a quarter-final run at Roland Garros.
The 24-year-old from Montreal fell to American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Saturday in the grass-court tournament taking place in Stuttgart, Germany.
This win marked Zverev’s first appearance in a grass-court final in eight years. The last time he accomplished that was at the ATP 500 event in Halle in 2017, where he lost the championship match to Roger Federer. The year before, the German star also reached the final there but was defeated by Florian Mayer.
