A boil water advisory remains in effect for Hoboken, New Jersey after Tuesday's water main break. The advisory has been lifted for Jersey City.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection lifted the boil water advisory in Hoboken on Friday. It comes after the city was placed under advisory on Tuesday while the water company Veolia worked to repair a water main break in the neighboring Jersey City.

Crews have repaired a broken water main in Jersey City that occurred on Tuesday. But despite the repairs, a boil water advisory in Hoboken remains in place until further notice. The boil water advisory only impacts Hoboken residents. The main broke near Jersey Avenue and 18th Street in Jersey City.

Hoboken residents should be careful and not drink tap water without boiling it on Tuesday, officials say. The reason? A boil water advisory has been issued for Hoboken due to fluctuations in water pressure caused by efforts to stabilize service after a water main break at 18th Street & Jersey Avenue in Jersey City.

"In the interest of public health, the boil water advisory was issued due to fluctuations in water pressure caused by efforts to stabilize service in Hoboken after a water main break at 18th Street & Jersey Avenue in neighboring Jersey City," Veolia Water said in a press release.

Crews have successfully fixed a 36-inch water main break in Jersey City, but a boil water advisory remains in effect for Hoboken.
