In the city of Madison, neighborhoods are still making efforts to repair damages caused by the tornado that came through Tuesday night.

A deadly severe weather outbreak spawned at least one tornado in 22 states from May 15-21. Among the hardest-hit states were Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Following Tuesday’s storms, the NWS will be surveying storm damage across North Alabama. They plan to conduct surveys in Colbert, Jackson, Lawrence, Limestone, and Madison counties.

One of those homes lost much of its west-facing facade. Assessments determined that the tornado was at peak strength as it approached Hughes Road, near Downing Ridge and Millsford Road, where more homes were damaged.

A tornado emergency has been issued for parts of northern Alabama as a large and destructive tornado tears through the area - with residents being told to seek shelter immediately.
