Tropical Storm Keli has dissipated, while Iona has weakened to a tropical storm as it moves further away from the Hawaiian Islands. Iona was located about 730 miles south-southwest of Honolulu, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.

A major hurricane is churning in the Pacific Ocean several hundred miles away from Hawaii. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tuesday that Hurricane Iona is one of two major weather systems in the ocean but poses no threat to the islands.

The National Hurricane Center said late Wednesday, July 30, Tropical Storm Gil has formed in the Pacific Ocean and could soon become a hurricane.
