Connecticut officials say the pilot of a small plane that was about to crash managed to safely land it in Long Island Sound and call 911 to report his location before he and another person were rescued.

A privately owned small plane with two people onboard crashed about six miles off the coast of Branford around 10:30 a.m. – shortly after taking off from Bridgeport Sikorsky Airport, officials said. The pilot and a passenger were rescued from the water by the U.S. Coast Guard and taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities have identified the occupants of the small plane that went down in Long Island Sound over the weekend as a father and his teen daughter.
