Users of Gmail, Google’s popular web-based email, may have noticed a newly added side-panel option to have the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Gemini summarise longer emails and threads when working on a laptop or desktop computer.

You no longer have to manually start Gemini summaries for long email chains, but you can also opt out if you don't want them.

Google's AI Gemini will now automatically summarize long email threads for some users, the company said in a blog post. Previously, users had to tap "Summarize this email" for Gemini to generate key points.
